The Police have arrested one person in connection with the recent violent attack on a branch of Rev. Owusu Bempah’s Glorious Word and Power Ministries International church at Odorkor in Accra.
A statement from the police service said the suspect was arrested by the Accra Regional Police Command at Odorkor to assist in investigations. The report however stated that the suspect has been granted bail and is to be reporting to the CID Headquarters.
The statement signed by the Director General of Public Affairs of the Police, ASP David Eklu, they were worried over the trend of doom prophecies by some religious leaders about the death of some key individuals in society, noting that such utterances have the “tendency of breaching public peace and causing fear and panic in the country.”
The Police, therefore cautioned persons who make some pronouncements to be wary of the security implications. They also urged the media to desist from publicizing such pronouncements to avoid being used as tools for destabilizing the country’s peace and security.
The Police also condemn any retaliatory acts by opposing factions and warns that causing harm, damage to property, rioting, threatening etc. is a crime. It disturbs public peace. The public is therefore advised to report actions which are likely to breach public peace, or cause fear and panic to the nearest Police Station.
The founder and leader of the Glorious Word and Power Ministries International had his church premises in Odorkor attacked on Wednesday, for predicting the death of some politicians, religious leaders and high-profile personalities including the Chief Imam, Sheikh Nuhu Sharabutu
Although, Rev. Owusu Bempah has received several warnings to retract the prophecies or face wrath from some section of the muslim community and general public, he insisted that there was nothing wrong with his prophecies.
